Can rabbits eat lettuce?

Rabbits can eat lettuce, however some types of lettuce can be dangerous to rabbits.  Some varieties of lettuce are bad for a rabbits kidneys.

Iceberg lettuce can cause diarrhea, and some cabbages are actually toxic to rabbits.  A mineral called laudanum (which is toxic to rabbits) is present in some types of lettuce and cabbages.

Most dark lettuces are healthy for rabbits, while light lettuce like iceberg lettuce has no nutritional value.

If you give your rabbit lettuce, make sure you wash it well before you give it. Pesticides found on lettuce can be poisonous to rabbits.
